KIWI F5000 RACERS OFF TO THE UK

The seven - Stan Redmond and David Abbot from Christchurch, Russell Greer from Blenheim, Andrew Higgins and father and son Peter and Aaron Burson from Auckland, and Warwick Mortimer from Matakana - will contest races at two big summer meetings, the first organised by the Classic Sports Car Club (CSCC) at Oulton Park in Cheshire on Friday June 24 and Saturday June 25, the second the Brands Hatch Superprix organised by the Historic Sports Car Club (HSCC) at Brands Hatch in Kent over the July 02-03 weekend.

At both meetings the New Zealand drivers will join the Historic Sports Car Club's Derek Bell Trophy class for historically significant single-seater racing cars.

This year's trip is the second to the UK undertaken by MSC New Zealand F5000 Tasman Cup Revival Series drivers, the first - and very successful trip - taking place in 2005.

Four of the seven New Zealanders will drive Lola cars, Abbott a T430, Higgins a T400 and Redmond and Greer T332 models, while Peter Burson will drive a McRae GM1, son Aaron a Talon MR1A, and Mortimer a Surtees TS5.

Three cars owned by British drivers but based in New Zealand - the Surtees TS8 of Michael Whatley, Chevron B24 of Greg Thornton and Lola T400 of Mark Dwyer - have also been shipped to the UK for their drivers to use over the Northern Hemisphere summer, before they are returned with the other Kiwi cars for their drivers to use in the 20011/12 MSC NZ F5000 Tasman Cup Revival Series.
